Dukes open baseball season with 13-6 win

The Gloucester Dukes opened the Peninsula District baseball season with a 13-6 win in six innings at Phoebus on Tuesday. The game was called after six due to darkness. Aaron O’Neil picked up his first 2011 win on the mound after pitching five and two-thirds innings, and Jacob Brown closed out the game.

The Dukes put up eight runs in the second inning for an early lead and tacked on three more in the third. They also scored in the fourth and sixth innings and combined for 13 hits in the win.

Adam Baldwin contributed three hits in four trips to the plate and scored twice. Jacob Houston was two for three with two RBIs, two steals and two runs scored. Perry Morris was also two for three with a double, two RBIs and three runs. Calvin Strong had an RBI, a steal and a run.

David Lutz, Josh Martin, Brian Belvin, Jake Roane and Ethan Sabo also had hits, Lutz and Roane had two RBIs each and Martin batted in a run.

Gloucester will host Hampton Friday and plays at Bethel on Tuesday...
