Dukes fall to Warriors, 27-7

Gloucester dropped to 1-3 in the Peninsula District and 2-3 overall after a 27-7 varsity football loss to host Kecoughtan on Saturday.

The Dukes came out flat in Darling Stadium and the Warriors took early advantage, scoring on 61 and 48 yard runs in the first quarter. A short pass capped another successful Kecoughtan drive in the second quarter and the hosts took a 20-0 advantage into halftime.

The Warriors rushed for a fourth touchdown in the third quarter to make it 27-0. Gloucester prevented the shutout in the final period when quarterback Aiden Thompson passed to Davant’e Smith for 61 yards and a touchdown. Jackson Lowther hit the point after for the Dukes.

"Offensively, we couldn’t execute well at all. Most of the offense we tried to generate just turned into blown opportunities," said Gloucester coach Sonny Merchant. "We gave up three big plays in the first half. Other than that, the defense played pretty well."
