One of two upsets in the Peninsula District Boys Soccer Tournament semifinals last week ended post-season play for host Gloucester. The sixth-seeded Warwick Raiders bested the second-seed Dukes in a 3-2 match on May 22.
Warwick scored first in the contest but Justin Hansford had a Gloucester goal just before the half to tie it at 1-1. After a second-half goal by the Raiders, Kyle Rowe answered late in the half to notch it at 2-2. One minute later, the Raiders hit another go-ahead goal and the Dukes ran out of time to score.
In the other semi-final, fourth-seeded Menchville upset top-seed Kecoughtan 2-0 and the Monarchs went on to win the tournament with a 3-2 victory over the Raiders in overtime last Thursday.
Six Gloucester players received Peninsula All-District honors. Forward Dylan Wyco and midfielder Rowe were named to the first team. Second-team selections for Gloucester were midfielder Dustin Tietjen, defender Jacob Allen and goalkeeper Lee Loudermilk. Hansford received ...
