The Gloucester High School varsity football team returned to the gridiron last Thursday night, defeating the Kecoughtan Warriors, 13-2, during the home season opener.
M.J. Roberts scored the game’s only offensive touchdown, ending the day with 114 yards on 14 carries. His longest run was 58 yards. The Dukes’ other touchdown came off an interception by William Pica.
Other offensive leaders included Cyler Brooks with one reception for 21 yards, Corey Skay with one reception for 13 yards and Xavier Johnson with one reception for 11 yards.
On defense, Scott Klaiss had four tackles, including two for a loss. Preston Prentiss had five tackles, one behind the line of scrimmage; Colby Bartley had four tackles, one for a loss; Tyler Welch had four tackles, Pica had three tackles, one for a loss; Jacob Mazzuca had three tackles, one for a loss; Maliq Jackson had three tackles; and Brad Bellinger had two tackles.
