Dukes beat Patriots, fall to Monarchs

The Gloucester High School varsity baseball team picked up a win against the Denbigh Patriots this past week, but also fell to the Menchville Monarchs, ending the Dukes’ nine-game win streak.
The Dukes defeated the Patriots, 15-0, last Thursday. All but three members of the Gloucester lineup got hits during the game. Pitcher Austin Shackelford batted in four runs in two at bats. He also pitched a combined no-hitter with Camden Richardson, who pitched one inning. The game was called at the conclusion of the fifth inning.
Gloucester faced a tough night Tuesday, falling to the Monarchs, 11-0. Only three members of the Gloucester lineup got hits. Hank Hardaway and Shackelford both got hits each time they were at bat.
The Dukes will play the Menchville Monarchs again this afternoon on their home field. First pitch is at 4:30.
