Gloucester High School wrestlers closed the regular season with a pair of wins on Jan. 19 at Hampton, beating both Denbigh and the host Crabbers.
The Dukes finished the Peninsula District schedule with a 7-2 record, losing only to Phoebus and Bethel. The Gloucester wrestlers were scheduled to take on neighboring Mathews on the Blue Devils’ mats last night before preparing for the PD Tournament on Feb. 4 and 5.
The Dukes dominated Denbigh, 60-18, last week, with pins from Axton Kadel at 112 in 1:23, Travis Mangrum at 135 in 2:39, Steven Sherrange at 140 in 3:59, Shawn Milks at 145 in 2:12, Landon Smith at 171 in 3:51 and Dion Harris at 215 in 1:21.
Gloucester received forfeits at 103, 125, 130 and 285. Falling to their Patriot opponents were Seth Ballard at 119 who was pinned in 1:30 and Robert Leso at 152 and Tyler Wood at 160 who dropped 15-11 and 6-2 decisions, respectively. Denbigh also received a forfeit at 189.
