The Mathews County Board of Supervisors elected Amy Dubois as chair and Mike Rowe as vice chair during the board’s all-day organizational meeting last Wednesday. The board also heard a presentation on board governance, set its meeting schedule for next year, reviewed its Code of Ethics and Bylaws, made appointments to various boards and committees, and heard budget requests from department heads and constitutional officers. Sanford “Sandy” Wanner, retired James City County Administrator and an adjunct instructor at the College of William and Mary, gave a presentation on local government, emphasizing the importance of supervisors understanding their role as elected officials and becoming familiar with the variety of legal requirements governing their actions.
