Voters will be able to head to the polls in Gloucester, Mathews and the rest of Virginia on Tuesday to cast their ballots in dual-party primaries to decide Democratic and Republican candidates for U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives.
Locally, Democrats are being asked to choose between two candidates for the 1st Congressional District seat currently held by incumbent Republican Rep. Robert J. Wittman of Montross, while Republicans will be able to choose from five candidates for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Richmond.
Both Wittman and Kaine will advance as the candidates of their respective parties in the November general election. Early in-person voting began May 3 and continues through Saturday, with registrar’s offices open that day in the two counties.
