DRUCILLA IDA FERGUSON

Drucilla Ida Ferguson of Randallstown, Maryland, affectionately known to her family and friends as “Dru,” went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 98. She was born sixth of 10 siblings on September 19, 1926 in Lottsburg, Virginia, to the late Sterling Lee Dameron and Ida Alice Rich-Dameron. She graduated from Holley Graded School in Lottsburg, and Rosenwald High School in Northumberland County. At an early age, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where she met and married Ozzie Linwood Ferguson in 1951. Later, moving to New York City, where she attended and graduated from Apex Beauty School in 1952 and welcomed a daughter, Angela Drucilla Ferguson, in 1953. She found her passion while working as a Nursing Technician at Goldwater Memorial Hospital in New York for over 30 years until she retired in 1989. While residing in New York, she was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in New York City and Faith Baptist Church in Hempstead, Long Island, New York. She returned to Baltimore in 1990 to be closer to family and settled in Randallstown. She joined Concord Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board until her lack of mobility made it impossible for her to continue as an usher, but she remained a member in good standing to the end. Upon retiring, she enjoyed completing word search puzzle books, playing Pinochle with her friends, and socializing with her neighbors in activities and events sponsored by the Parkview at Randallstown apartment complex as well as excursions sponsored by the Liberty Senior Center in Randalls- town, of which she was a member. She was a wonderful cook and took pride in hosting holiday dinners and special celebrations in her home. She was dedicated to her family and always strived to encourage fellowship and cohesiveness throughout the family. She was a mentor to her only grandson, Damien Giles. She was preceded in death by sisters, Irene Hooper, Dorothy King, Gertrude Hill, Catherine Hooper, and Lessie Parrotte, and brothers, Leonard Cockrell, Sterling Lee Dameron, William Dameron, and Sherman Dameron. This dedicated servant of the Lord leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Angela Drucilla Ferguson of St. Croix, USVI; grandson, Damien Giles of Mathews County, Virginia, Mark Ferguson of Mathews County, Virginia, son of Ozzie Linwood Ferguson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends. The interment will be private. A virtual memorial celebration of her life will be announced later.
