The sixth annual Dragon Run Day will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Thousand Trails Camp Resort, located on the shores of the Piankatank River off Route 198 five miles east of Glenns.

Sara Stamp, Dragon Run Special Area Management Plan director, said Tuesday that the event is being held "with the goal of increasing public awareness of this ecologically critical watershed area." The nearby cypress-lined Dragon Run, which stretches through several Middle Peninsula counties including Gloucester, has "a wealth of rare and unusual species harbored in its pristine waters."

Stamp, who coordinates Dragon Run Steering Committee and related activities as a planner for the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission, said that the campground is a fitting place to celebrate the Dragon, as it sits just downstream from that water body.
