Dr. Sallye Hartsfield Petruchyk died on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the age of 88. She grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana, and received her bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from LSU, and her doctorate from the University of Florida in 1977. She was in private practice with Denbigh Psychiatric Associates in Newport News, Va., until her retirement in 1996. She moved to Hayes, Va., in 2002 and became a member of the Advisory Board of the Department of Parks and Recreation. She was also a volunteer at the Gloucester Mathews Free Clinic for 10 years. Also, in her retirement, Dr. Petruchyk became a columnist for The Health Journal. She was a member of the Ware River Circle of The King’s Daughters and a fundraiser for the Laurel Shelter. She also authored a website called Psychologist Listens.com. Dr. Petruchyk was preceded in death by a daughter, Megan Martin. She is survived by a sister, Jan Bozman of Stonewall, Louisiana; a brother, Dallas Baillio Jr. of Mobile, Alabama, and another brother, Robert L. Baillio of Bossier City, Louisiana. Also, surviving are her son, Michael Peterson, his wife Heather, and their son Pace, all of Hayes; a daughter, Moetke Soule and her sons, David and Mack, all of Tallahassee, Fla. She also has five other grandchildren, Caleb, Nico, Aidan, Abigail, and Jude. The family would like to say a special thank-you to the staff at Charter Assisted Living in Newport News, Va., and all of the staff at Sanders Heron Cove 1, in Gloucester, Va., for the dedicated care they provided. A memorial service will be held at Hogg Funeral Home on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 2 p.m. Inurnment will be private.
