DR. JOHN ROGER HOGG

Dr. John Roger Hogg, a beloved physician, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 27, 2024 at the age of 87. Known for his unwavering dedication to both the health care and overall welfare of his patients, Dr. Hogg’s impact on the community was profound and enduring.
A proud alumnus of Woodberry Forest Boarding School (Class of 1956), he went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Yale University in 1959. Dr. Hogg pursued his passion for medicine, receiving his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1963, where he met his devoted wife, Dr. Carol Campbell Hogg. He completed his pediatric residency at Duke University in 1966.
He served as the Chief of Pediatrics for the United States Air Force at Langley Air Force Base for two years before returning to Newport News to join his father’s practice, The Children’s Clinic. Throughout his career, Dr. Hogg was deeply concerned not just about the medical needs of his patients but also their overall welfare. Upon his retirement, he expressed that, above all, he simply missed his patients.
Dr. Hogg was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Paul Hogg and Dorothy Williams Hogg, as well as his sister, Rebecca Hogg Sherman, and her husband Woodward M. Sherman. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dr. Carol Campbell Hogg; his son, Dr. Paul S. Hogg and his wife Ashley, along with their children, Caroline, Campbell, and Francis Grace Hogg; his son, Capt. Chandler Hogg and his wife Amber, and their children, Alex and Charles Hogg; and his brother, Reverend Dr. Paul Hogg and his wife Toni Hogg.
He will always be the wind beneath our wings.
At the request of the family, the service will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters CHKD, Attn: Philanthropy, P.O. Box 2156, Norfolk, Va. 23501, honoring Dr. Hogg’s commitment to children’s health.
