Dorsey Preston Robinson, 75, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at the Riverside Convalescent Center, Mathews, Va. He was born Oct. 12, 1936.
At an early age, he was baptized and joined the New Mount Zion Baptist Church. He had served on the Trustee Board, Usher Board, Senior Choir and Men’s Chorus. Also, Preston was a member of the Gloucester-Mathews Male Chorus and served as a foreign missionary with Ambassadors for Christ.
Preston was educated in the Gloucester County School System. He served two years in the United States Army, and he retired from the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company after 35 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dorsey Boston, and four brothers, Allen Pollard, Herbert Redmon, the Rev. John Redmon and Smith Redmon.
Preston leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Annabell Robinson; four daughters, Betty Wyatt (Anthony), Dorothy Romine, Florine Combs and Shirley Bristow (Jerry); one son, Preston Robinson (Christina); 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; his mother, Elnora Pollard; three sisters, Lena Redmon, Thelma Pollard and Nancy Burrell (Eric); three brothers, Moses Pollard, Harold Burrell and Timothy Burrell (Suzanne); nine sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; one aunt, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service was held Saturday, March 31, 2012, at the New Mount Zion Baptist Church, Woods Cross Roads. Interment was in the church cemetery with military rites.
