Dorothy Mae Jenkins, age 83, of Hayes, died peacefully, with family at her side, Friday, June 29, 2012, in Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

Mrs. Jenkins was known to many as "Granny Dot," especially to the children at Achilles Elementary School, where she retired.

She lived every day of her life to the fullest and was happiest when she was surrounded by her family. A lifetime member of Union Baptist Church, volunteering was a favorite pastime particularly with the food bank. As she crafted her beautiful handwork sharing them with friends and family was an additional pleasure.

Husband, Joseph W. Jenkins, preceded her in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Judy Bonniville and husband Rudy; two sons, David Jenkins and wife Cathy, and William Joe Jenkins; one sister, Hazel Fodri; one brother, Jimmy West and wife Sarah; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Dr. Rodney Autry, as well as Pastor Richard Whiteheart, were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment followed in Gloucester Point Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home on Monday from 7-8 p.m.
