Dorothy “Dot” G. West of Newport News, passed away Dec. 25, 2014.

Dot was born in Lowell, Mass. She joined the Navy (Waves) during WWII right after graduating high school, where she met and married Johnnie. Dot lived in Gloucester for over 60 years raising three sons. For the last three years she resided at Morningside Assisted Living in Newport News, having just moved to Warwick Gardens this past week where she passed away.

Dot was preceded in death by her husband Johnnie L. West and her beloved son, Dennis R. West, both of Hayes, Va.; her brothers, William and Raymond Grand, and her parents, Catherine (Marshall) and Ernest Grand all of Lowell, Mass.

She is survived by her sons, Johnnie L. West Jr. and his wife Maria of Newport News, Brian West and his wife Sandra of Gloucester; daughter-in-law, Donna West of Gloucester; seven grandchildren, Johnnie, Jennifer, Denny, Brian, Ryan, Nikki and Josh; and eight great-grandchildren, Marina, Mason, Jackson, Hayden, Gracie, Kayli, Logan and Brantley; her sister, Kay Wood and husband Mark; her brother, Ernest Grand and his wife Mary, and sister-in-law, Joan Grand all of Massachusetts.

A service of Christian Mass was held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014 at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. The Rev. James Cowles officiated. Interment with military honors followed in Rosewell Memorial Garden. The family received friends Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
