DORIS JEAN DICK

Doris Jean Dick (née Stewart), 99, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Doris was born on December 13, 1925 in Littleton, West Virginia, where she spent most of her childhood. Her family then moved to Washington, Pa., where she graduated from high school. She married her beloved husband, Max Albert Dick, to whom she was married for 64 years. Throughout his 30-year Air Force career they traveled the country and overseas while raising their family. Doris retired from Civil Service after many years at Walson Army Hospital, Fort Dix, N.J., in civilian personnel.

She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, Theresians, a hospital auxiliary volunteer, active in Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, and Family Services.
She enjoyed working outdoors in her yard and garden. In the summer you could find her canning fruits and vegetables, especially her bread and butter pickles, applesauce, green beans, and grape jelly. She religiously read her daily newspaper and she was always abreast of local current events.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Max; brothers, George and Kenneth; her parents, Carl Friend and Wanda Jane (VanHorn) Stewart, and her grandson, Daniel Rita. She is survived by her loving children, Phyllis Rita (Dan), Richard (Donna), Patricia Bennett, Daniel (Denise), and Theresa Ainsworth. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rosalind Rita (Travis Wolf), Jocelyn Rita, Katherine Hendrix (Tim), Geoffrey Dick (Jill), Emily Buchanan (Ben), Marlene Allen (Shawn), Julia Barton (Steve), Christina Dick (Jay Calabro), David Dick, Hannah Ainsworth and Max Ainsworth, as well as 10 great-grandchildren.
A Mass was held on Friday, February 28, 2025, at noon in St. Therese Catholic Church. Burial will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Riverside Hospice and her caregivers for their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverside Hospice, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Children’s Hospital.
