Dora “Trudy” Long, 88, of Barhamsville, passed away on May 18, 2024. Known as Trudy to her family and friends, she was born in Henry County, Va., on October 17, 1935, daughter of the late Verdie Cody and Charles Henry Bell. She moved with her family to Norfolk County, Va., where she later met and married the love of her life, Lester “Bud” Long. They enjoyed a full life of 68 years together.
Trudy loved spending time at home with her family and traveling, camping, gardening and just enjoying being a housewife and mother, often feeding many extras at the table. Her artistic ability shows in and around her home as she was quite talented with her sewing and creativity, making many items from wood or repurposing pieces into useful items. She thoroughly enjoyed her career as a bus driver for the York County Public Schools system spanning many years, and was beloved by numerous students, parents and faculty, especially the latter years when she transported her beloved special needs children.
She is survived by her children, Kenny Long (Debbie), Doug Long (Christina), Denise Canada (Allen); grandchildren, Jennifer Canada, D.J. Shepeluk (Michelle), Adam Long (Kaylan) and Emily Van Engen (Garrett); her great-grandchild, Luna Wren Long; her sister, Mary Oswalt (Charles); brother, Paul Bell (Deborah), and many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Les; her daughters, Jeannie Long Bell and Pam Molinatto; her sisters, Anna Mae Sorey and Hazel Sermons; her brothers, Charles Bell Jr., Bobby Bell, and Billy Bell.
Trudy was a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She enjoyed the fellowship while attending Faith Baptist Church and later enjoyed viewing the services from her home provided by Richmond’s First Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be held at noon May 31, 2024 with visitation one hour prior to the service at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th St., West Point, Va. 23181. A reception to follow the service.
