Fresh off his state championship win in the 110-meter hurdles, Mathews High School junior Donovan Forrest competed this past weekend in the Adidas Track Nationals at the Marcus T. Johnson Track Complex in Greensboro, N.C.
Forrest made it past Friday’s preliminary round to advance to Saturday’s championship in the National Elite category (the second highest category in this national event, just below Championship level). Forrest turned in a personal best of 14.72 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles to win his preliminary heat. The top eight times of all the preliminary heats earned a spot in Saturday afternoon’s final event.
Forrest drew lane eight in the finals, an unfamiliar spot for the Mathews athlete. “He just didn’t have a good race” on Saturday, said his MHS coach, Tony Forrest. “He has been running some very clean races [up until this point].
