Donnie R. Diggs, age 67, of Gloucester and formerly of Cobbs Creek, Va., passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2012.

He was retired with 32 years of service from Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. and was a member of Mathews Chapel United Methodist Church. Donnie loved to hunt and was an avid rabbit hunter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Eula M. Diggs.

Survivors are his daughter, Donna K. Akins (Tommy) of Cobbs Creek; his son, Douglas S. Diggs (Kim) of Cobbs Creek; grandson, Ryan S. Chriscoe; granddaughter, Ashley Chapman; his sister, Jean D. Close (Don) of Montpelier, Va., and Lorena Cooke, his companion for 16 years, along with Lorena’s daughter, Sheila McKinney (Larry).

The family received friends on Friday, April 13, 2012, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews.

Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Harry Loyd were held at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, April 14, 2012, with interment in Windsor Gardens Cemetery, Dutton, Va.
