Donald Bruce Kappes, 85, of Hayes, died Jan. 1, 2014 with family at his side.

 

Don was a native of Eastern Shore, had been a resident of Gloucester County for many years, and retired from Verizon Phone Company in 1988 after 41 years.

 

He was a dedicated member of Gloucester Point Baptist Church serving on numerous committees of the church. Don was a former member of the Abingdon Ruritan Club, a hospice volunteer, and a member of the Elks Onancock Lodge No. 1766. Don enjoyed life, loved to laugh and enjoyed people. He will be missed by all.

 

He is survived by his son, Donald B. Kappes Jr. and wife Doris; granddaughters, Angelene Chelluck and husband Chris, Katheryn Kappes and Jennifer Sladky; great-grandchildren, Ashton “Hambone,” Colton, Ethan and Adasyn.

 

A Celebration of Life service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Gloucester Point Baptist Church with the Rev. Bud Goude officiating. Inurnment will be private in Lynchburg, Va. The family received friends prior to the service from 10-11 on Monday at the church.
