Documentary screening tonight at Flat Iron

“Headwaters Down: Tidal River,” a new feature-length documentary co-directed by Mathews native Dietrich Teschner of Richmond, will be screened at 7 o’clock tonight, Thursday, May 2, at Flat Iron Crossroads in Gloucester.
A sequel to “Headwaters Down,” this second film takes up where the first left off, at the fall line in Richmond. Teschner and four of his friends launch sea kayaks to explore the 110-mile lower half of the James River, a place of environmental disaster and recovery that surprises the crew with its beauty, complexity and wisdom. The filmmakers particularly note such key markers as the founding of Virginia at Jamestown Island, the Civil War battle at Fort Pocahontas, the Kepone chemical disaster, and the gravely threatened Bald Cypress forests.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with refreshments and film-related T-shirts available for purchase. Tickets are $10, with proceeds going toward making more environmental films.
