COVID-19 case rates have continued to increase throughout the U.S. during the past week, including in Virginia.
The Three Rivers Health District is seeing about 20 new cases per day, said a press release from Medical Director Richard Williams. However, all localities in the district continue to have low rates of community transmission, according to the CDC, except for Mathews, which is categorized as medium.
Mathews had 21 new cases of the virus during the past week, a drop from last week’s 33, but still well above the zero number of new cases recorded in mid-March. The new cases bring Mathews County’s total to 1,513 since the pandemic began. Mathews had no new hospitalizations or deaths from the virus, however, leaving those totals at 32 and 27, respectively.
