The Gwynn’s Island Civic League Foundation raised more than $2,000 during a Dine to Donate event held in May at Richardson’s Café in Mathews. Members of the school board and the board of supervisors, as well as the county’s sheriff, dropped by to grab a bite to eat and show their support, said a press release. Richardson’s owner Lynne Davenport, shown at left in top photo with school board member Mary Kathryn Diggs, donated a portion of the day’s receipts, which will go toward purchasing classroom supplies for Mathews County’s three public schools. Members of the foundation were on hand all day to talk with customers about the fundraiser and encourage them to make a stop at the “Donation Bus,” shown in photo below with school board chair Dr. Marianne Gibbs and superintendent Dr. David Daniel.
