Mathews ended their baseball skid at four games by beating King and Queen 12-1 on Tuesday. Before ending the losing streak, Mathews lost to district foe King William and AA opponent and old Tidewater District rival New Kent.
The Devils kicked off district play last Wednesday as they hosted the King William Cavaliers. After a scoreless three innings to begin the game, King William jumped on the Devils scoring four runs in the fourth before adding two more in the fifth and five in the sixth. Multiple errors committed by the Devils helped the cause for the Cavaliers, as five unearned runs crossed the plate aided by seven walks and two hit batters.
Mathews provided no response, as they were blanked through six innings. Down by eleven, the Devils fell to the slaughter rule, losing 11-0 in a shortened, six-inning matchup.
