Devils fall to Disciples on gridiron

Mathews High School football is still “in the learning curve,” said head coach Dustin Mullins following Friday’s 62-0 loss at home to the Central Village Homeschool Disciples.
In only the second game after the program returned following a two-year hiatus, the Blue Devils were faced with a new challenge as many key players were out sick “which made things tough for our players due to the fact they had to play different positions,” Mullins said.
“Our guys fought hard [and] we had some positive moments, and some moments we need to correct and improve on,” he said. “This team never gave up; they fight till the end and I’m proud of the resilience of my team.”
The game went down in the books as a scrimmage. The Blue Devils’ next varsity game will be homecoming on Friday, Oct. 11 against the visiting King and Queen Tigers. The players eligible to play JV football are scheduled to compete against the visiting Lancaster Red Devils on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
