The Mathews High School wrestling team kicked off its season last Wednesday, defeating both Warhill and Grafton in a home tri-meet. On Saturday, the Devils traveled to Williamsburg, placing third out of 13 teams in the Ram Cup at Lafayette High School.

While the overall turnout for Mathews High School wrestling is low this season, “the few wrestlers we have are tough,” said MHS head coach Tom Holaday.

In the first bout of the tri-meet last Wednesday, Mathews defeated Warhill by a 54-24 margin. “We were able to bump some kids up and fill in 10 weight classes,” Holaday said.
