The Gloucester Mathews Care Clinic hosted its spring fundraiser, “Derby de Mayo,” on Saturday, at the Abingdon Ruritan Club, Bena.
Blending the flavors of Cinco de Mayo with the flamboyance and competition of the Kentucky Derby, this was the second annual gala of its kind for the clinic and raised over $65,000 for patient care at GMCC.
Guests arrived in Derby and/or Cinco de Mayo attire and participated in a hat contest, virtual horse races, and casino games. Local businesses and individuals donated a variety of items and experiences which were raffled at the event. A DJ and dancing rounded out the evening, with food catered by local favorite Chef Brian Marshall.
GMCC hosted a popular Casino Night fundraiser in the past, and this year’s event brought back some gaming in addition to virtual horse racing.
