Mathews Elementary School fourth graders showed their respect for local law enforcement by inviting officers from the Mathews County Sheriff’s Office to read to them last week during Police Officer Appreciation Week. Students dressed in blue, had blue ribbons on, and had blue ribbons on their classroom doors to show their respect and appreciation. Here, Deputy Deshun McGinnis reads “Officer Buckle and Gloria” to Stacie Wiatt’s class. In addition, Sergeant Will Hargis read “Police Officers on Patrol” to Sarah Richardson’s class, and Major Patric Graham read “K-9 Mattis on the Job” to Mary Salmon’s students.
