Democrats’ dinner was sold out; Northam speaks

The Gloucester County Democratic Committee’s revived seafood dinner fundraiser on Sept. 12 was sold out, a release said.
Former Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam was the keynote speaker at the dinner, which was held at the Abingdon Ruritan Club in Bena. Also speaking were Leslie Mehta, Democratic candidate for the First District in the U.S. Congress, and Shelly Simonds, 70th district member in the Virginia House of Delegates. U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, in session in Washington, D.C., sent comments on video.
The family of the late Eldridge N. Cook, longtime Gloucester seafood dealer, was recognized with the newly established Impact Award, which was created in his name. First Congressional District Chair Dianne Carter de Mayo spoke of her “Uncle El,” a lifelong Democrat who was widely respected for his leadership in the community and in the Gloucester County seafood industry, and known for creating jobs and expanding the seafood trade.
