Although Afghanistan is no longer front-page news, there is still great need for understanding the plight of the Afghan people particularly the many courageous women who are once again under the oppressive rule of the Taliban government.
The Great Decisions group in Deltaville will hear from a young woman who has overcome countless obstacles to obtain an education and become a strong advocate for Afghan women and education of girls in her native country.
Tabasum Wolayat, Ph.D., will present “A Woman’s Life in Afghanistan” at 10 a.m. Friday at the presentation, which will be held at the Deltaville Community Association building, 17147 General Puller Highway.
She will discuss her family and teenage years in Kabul before and after the Taliban, her education in England and the U.S. and the BBC Afghan Women’s Hour, the 2014 Afghan elections and her role in the Afghan government to increase the role of women in government, education and society.
