Coming into the final game of the season, the Deltaville Deltas and Richmond El Heaters had nothing statistically to play for. Both teams had lost just two games all season and each had clinched their division title and a first-round bye in the coming playoff tournament.
But you wouldn’t know that watching the back-and-forth battle on Saturday night—the game was far from meaningless for two teams with a lot of recent history.
In the end, Chase Fisher drove a two-out, full-count single to left field in the bottom of the 10th inning, scoring Brandt Brophy to give the Deltas a thrilling win in the regular season finale.
The game was full of high intensity moments throughout. Deltaville was the first team to get on the board in the third inning, when Colton Smith led off the inning with a home run to make it a 1-0 game.
