After falling in the first game of last weekend’s critical three-game series with the York Cannons, the Deltaville Deltas rallied to win the final two games, taking the series and moving into first place in Southern Virginia Baseball League standings.
After dropping the opening game of Saturday’s doubleheader, 6-1, Deltaville rebounded to take the nightcap, 9-1. On Sunday, the Deltas completed the series win, defeating the Cannons, 6-2.
With the wins, Deltaville now stands at 9-2 overall, and 8-2 in league play. The Cannons also have an 8-2 league record, but the head-to-head advantage gives the Deltas the edge in the standings.
This weekend, the annual Heritage Day game starts at 5 p.m. Saturday at Deltaville Ballpark. This year’s opponent is the Deltas’ long-time rival, the Tappahannock Tides.
