The Deltaville Deltas offense pounded out 29 runs in two games last weekend, as they blew past the VBA 61’s, 15-8 and 14-3 in Southern Virginia Adult Baseball League action.
With the wins, Deltaville (6-1) inched within a half game of the top-seeded Newport News Cardinals (7-1). The final showdown of the regular season between the top teams is this weekend, starting with a Saturday night home game at Deltaville Ballpark. Saturday’s game starts an hour earlier than usual, at 6:30 p.m.
Also on Saturday night, Nutzy, the mascot of the Richmond Flying Squirrels, will throw out the first pitch, and be available for pictures between 6 and 7 o’clock.
The Deltas visit Newport News on Sunday, in a 4 p.m. game at Monfalcone Field.

Deltaville broke open a 3-2 ballgame with a six-run fifth inning, and Robert Shermer blasted a three-run home run in the sixth, as the Deltas beat the 61’s, 15-8, on Saturday night in Deltaville.
