Deborah Lynne Denham of Murray, Ky., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, at her home. She was 62 years old.
She was born Feb. 21, 1952 in Lexington, Ky. She attended Murray State University before joining the U.S. Navy at the age of 22, serving a total of seven years achieving the rank of Petty Officer second class.
It was while she was serving that she met her husband, Christopher R. Denham. They married Nov. 14, 1981 before moving to the Hampton Roads, Va., area.
Their daughter, Jessica, was born on Deborah’s 30th birthday in 1982, and their second daughter, Jennifer, was born two years later in January. After leaving the Navy, Deborah devoted most of her time to caring for her home and family. Deborah and Chris settled in Gloucester, Va., in late 1983 and resided at their Gloucester home until mid-2013, when they moved to Deborah’s hometown to be near her mother, Verna Lax.
During this past summer, Deborah and Chris drove to Virginia to visit with their children and grandchildren for a 10-day vacation, making many memories which all of us will continue to cherish for years to come.
Deborah enjoyed reading, gardening, ginger ale, and more reading. She loved Jesus and Jesus loved her. She was a unique and eccentric personality that always left an impression on those she met. She was sometimes known for being opinionated and outspoken, and she was also known for her generosity and free spirit. She was an affectionate mother and adoring grandmother. Deborah will be sorely missed by her friends and family.
Deborah (a.k.a. Sissy, Deb, Aunt Ba Ba, Mom, Nana) is survived by her husband, Christopher R. Denham; mother, Verna M. Lax; two daughters, Jessica L. (Joshua) Tschirhart and Jennifer E. Waller; five grandchildren, Kayla A. Waller, Benjamin R. Tschirhart, Kayne W. Waller, Ava Jane Tschirhart, and Aiden E. Waller; two nieces, Stephanie L. (Mark) McPherson and Kari Leigh (Kevin) Hilt and their children, Elizabeth L. McPherson, Fox A. McPherson, Violet H. Hilt, Alexis R. Hilt, and Summer Hilt.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Karen Lee Hart, and her stepfather, Edgar Houston “E.H.” Lax Jr.
A private graveside memorial service will be held in Kentucky.
