The Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast and the Blazing Blue Herons canoe team hosted the annual “Day by the Pond” event on Saturday at Camp Burke’s Mill Pond, Gloucester. The Blazing Blue Heron canoe team kicked off its spring practice with this outdoor experience open to Girl Scouts of all ages. Open to Brownies in the second grade all the way up to high school ambassadors, the day offered girls a number of different outdoor activities, including fishing, canoeing, archery and a scavenger hunt. According to Blazing Blue Herons’ coach Edwina Gonzalez, this year’s event had 22 girls participating; in years’ past, the program has drawn as many as 50.
