David Bruce Hogge, 75, of Hayes, died at his home on Monday, August 5, 2024, surrounded by his family. Bruce was born to the late Margie Owens and Joseph Douglas “Buddy” Hogge on December 14, 1948. He grew up in Guinea, attended Achilles School, and graduated from Gloucester High School in 1967. He continued his education at the apprentice school at Newport News Shipbuilding, where he had a 46-year-long career as a “Master Shipbuilder” before retiring in 2012. He enjoyed his shipyard career and made many friends throughout the years. Bruce was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed spending time with friends watching races in Martinsville or on the TV. Bruce adored spending time with his family, especially visiting the Outer Banks of North Carolina. In his later years, Steve Harvey’s Family Feud was his favorite show, and he often quipped, “Good answer.” He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Karen Hogge; children, John David Hogge (Jennie), Di L. Cookson (Ryan), Dee K. Haywood (Phil); grandchildren, Morgan Palas (Zach), Autumn Cookson, Miles Gapcynski, Taylor Gapcynski; great-granddaughter, Pepper Palas; sisters, Mary Lou Privott and JoAnn Nystrom; cousin, Skeeter Webb. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 9, 2024, from 12:30-1:45 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, followed by a chapel service at 2 o’clock conducted by Pastor Bill West. Interment will follow in Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
