DARCY GODWIN

Darcy Godwin, age 63, of Hayes, Virginia passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 25, 2024 at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News. She was the heart of her family, who loved and cherished her family and friends more than anything. Darcy’s vibrant and kind personality was also very passionate, especially when it came to her love for music. Her favorite times were attending Phish and Dave Matthews concerts with her favorite “concert buddies,” her children.

Darcy’s love expanded for her four-legged friends, too. She was known for taking in stray kittens and giving them their fur-ever home. Darcy’s favorite spot where she would most often be found resting peacefully while at home was in her chair, with her beloved dog “Rocky” by her side.

With plans to retire in August, Darcy was a faithful employee to the United Parcel Service (UPS) for the last 32 years. She was a union steward who advocated for her coworkers and was relentlessly known for taking them “under her wing” throughout her tenure. When Darcy wasn’t working, attending concerts, or hanging out with her pets, she could be found in her garden. Her love for nature’s beauty could be visibly seen through her flourishing garden.

Darcy leaves behind her husband of 25 years John Godwin; children: son, Justin Mandell (Michelle), Jessica Mandell (Thomas Gray), Emily Jones (Mason), and Johnna Godwin; grandchildren: Adrian, Ella, Elijah, Ethan, and Colin, and sister, Tracey Toole.

Darcy, known as “Pretty Blue Eyes” to her husband, “Mom” to her children, and “Grandma” to her grandchildren, will be forever missed. Yet her memories and the legacy she leaves behind will always be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to cross her path.

From the lyrics of Darcy’s favorite Dave Matthews song: “Gravedigger, when you dig my grave Could you make it shallow So that I can feel the rain?”

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Abingdon Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, please bring your favorite dish to share and any stories you may have of her. Donations can be made in her memory to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, 600 Gresham Dr. Suite 8630A, Norfolk, Va. 23507.
