DANNY BYRD CAMPBELL, ESQ.

On February 19, 2025 Danny Byrd Campbell, Esq., of Harcum, joined our Heavenly Father after a full 94+ years of life. He was born on May 25,1930 in Hot Springs, Virginia, to Alvah R. Campbell and Ethel Campbell.

He married his wife, Rose Marie Perzan, on December 30, 1950 in Newport News, Virginia, and lived there until moving to Gloucester, Va. (Harcum), in 1973.

He started working as a teen working with his father as a carpenter and later worked at the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown for 56 years. He started there as a carpenter and finished his career as the Superintendent of the Public Works department.

He built his own house in Newport News, and two houses in Harcum. He also built houses for his brothers and sister, his sons, and many of his friends over the years. In his spare time, he earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Christopher Newport College of the College of William and Mary (now CNU) in 1974 by attending night classes.

He loved the outdoors and participated in camping throughout the U.S., hunted locally and spent weeks on several trips to Idaho hunting elk, antelope, deer and bear. He and Rose drove the Alaska Highway through Canada pulling a 30-foot trailer to spend the summer months fishing in Alaska. He climbed the trail up Half Dome in Yosemite National Park, hiked on glaciers, and had taken cruises all over the world to visit all seven continents. He also made several “Smoky and the Bandit” runs to Texas to stock up on Coors beer before it was available in Virginia.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Alvah and Ethel; his wife, Rose; his son, Donald W. Campbell; his sister, Peggy Langston, and his brother, Kerry R. Campbell.

He is survived by his son, Danny Jr. and wife Kathy; his brother, Alvah R. Campbell Jr. and wife Diane; his grandson, David M. Campbell and wife Hannah, and granddaughter, Kristin N. Hall and husband Trey. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Cameron D. Hall, Michael L. Hall, Mc-Kayla M. Hall and Cooper D. Campbell.

Everyone who knew “Papa” loved him and will sorely miss him, but we are blessed having known him. We are also happy that after 18 years he is finally reunited in heaven with the love of his life, his wife Rose.

In the spring, he will be buried at the Peninsula Memorial Park along with Rose and Donald. As he said when Rose left us, in lieu of flowers please take your family to dinner and let them know how much you love them.

As they did with Rose and Donald, Andrews Funeral Home in Gloucester is taking care of all of the arrangements.
