Daniel C. Oliver, age 85, of Gloucester, was called to his heavenly home on Monday, April 17, 2023. In his early years, Mr. Oliver worked as a waterman and then retired as a bridge tender on the Coleman Bridge. He loved family get-togethers, traveling, his church, and his canine companions. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Tyler Oliver, and brother, Garland Oliver. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Dorothy Phyllis Oliver; children, Marie Croxton, Timmy Oliver (Sherry), Pam Black (Kevin), Tammy Johnson (Scott), Tracy Burke (Jim), Dennis Oliver (Ashley); step-children, Velva Bunting (Dennis), Roy Moon III, Robin Field (Tom); siblings, Shirley Hudgins, Janice Darnell (Jimmy), Nancy Milby, Paul Oliver (Ann). He had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also had a special caregiver, Claudia Taylor. We would also like to give a special thank-you to the staff of Riverside Walter Reed Hospital and Riverside Hospice. A Celebration of Life service, conducted by the Rev. John Pouchot, will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 11 a.m. in Petsworth Baptist Church, 2471 Hickory Fork Road, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
