Carrie Phillips Cullison, 47, of Gwynn, has announced her candidacy for the position of Mathews Clerk of Circuit Court in the Nov. 7 election. She is running as a Republican.
Cullison said if elected she would focus on providing excellent customer service, digitizing records, and modernizing the clerk’s office.
Digitizing all land records and plats is a big project, she said, but grants and other sources of funding are available so it doesn’t place a big burden on the taxpayer. She said that the Middlesex County clerk’s office, where she currently serves as deputy clerk, has indexed its records back to 1955 by outsourcing the project to a company that takes the books for digitizing, promptly provides any needed documents while it has the books, and indexes all the information on-site.
“I would love to do that in Mathews,” she said. “For title workers, it’s really nice to have online access.”
