The COVID-19 case rate in Virginia continued to increase during the past week, with the Three Rivers Health District reporting on Monday that the statewide rate was over 1,880 new cases per day over a seven-day average.
The rate in the Three Rivers Health District also continues to increase, with 304 new cases recorded during the past week, up from 227 new cases last week.
The district has seen 453 people hospitalized from the virus during the past year and a half, with seven of those occurring during the past week, nearly double last week’s total of four. Altogether, 201 district residents have died from COVID, two of them since last Wednesday.
Over the past week, Gloucester added a third of the new cases to the district count, seeing 103 new cases, for a total of 2,642 since the pandemic began. Mathews is up by 13, for a total of 652, and Middlesex increased by 17, for a total of 623.
