COVID-19 cases in Gloucester and Mathews counties continue to rise as the pandemic surges across the U.S.
Describing the surge as “extremely brisk,” Three Rivers Health District Director Dr. Richard Williams said on Monday that the rolling seven-day average of new cases across the country was over 176,000, with over 12 million cases and 256,000 deaths.
The Virginia Department of Health website showed on Tuesday morning that Gloucester had added 31 new cases since last Wednesday, for a total of 419 cases of the virus since the pandemic began, while Mathews added six new cases, for a total of 155. There were no additional hospitalizations or deaths from the virus in either county during the past week. Gloucester stood at 19 hospitalizations and three deaths as of Tuesday, while Mathews was at 12 hospitalizations and one death.
