David and Kerry Harlan, moving from Minnesota about 4½ years ago, made Gloucester County their home. So, why Gloucester?
With retirement time coming up, David explained, “We had a daughter in college in Maryland. We knew we didn’t want to return to Pennsylvania which we are both from, so started looking. Kerry on the internet found the listing of what we finally bought on Burke’s Pond.”
The property and house needed a lot of attention. Following their son’s graduation from high school, it was time to meet their new home. Within a week their daughter, who is now office manager at Machicomoco State Park, graduated from college and with a mother-in-law visiting, their new house became much smaller. All survived and construction began. Their home sits on the same foundation as the older house but with new features and additions. “We really don’t call it remodeling. It’s a new house on a good old foundation with a basement.”
