County offices close due to COVID-19

Mathews County announced on Wednesday morning that all county and constitutional offices will be closed until further notice due to positive cases of COVID-19.
According to a press release from County Administrator Mindy Conner, two people have tested positive for the virus: the spouse of an employee in the administration offices and one of the custodial crew under contract to the county.
The custodial employee has recently performed custodial services in all the restrooms and many offices in county and constitutional buildings, said Conner, and another member of the custodial crew has a non-COVID health situation that prevents her from working at present. Conner said that staff is working to address custodial needs in the short term, as well as to identify longer-term solutions.
Offices will reopen as soon as they are safe for employees and the public, said Conner in the release.
