County drops suit against Jones brothers

Mathews County Board of Supervisors’ chairman Dave Jones scored a big win Tuesday night when his fellow board members voted unanimously to drop the county’s lawsuit against his company, JB Property Development LLC.
The board also voted to pay the company the final 10 percent payment, $22,112.46, on a FEMA elevation project at 674 Morse Point Road that was completed in 2019 and that was the cause of the litigation.
In addition, the motion, which was made by supervisor Melissa Mason, stated, “that the county issue an apology to JB Property and that the county release the bond posted by JB Property related to the aforementioned contract.”
Jones, who recused himself both from the vote and from the closed session during which the four other supervisors discussed the matter, said on Wednesday morning that he felt vindicated and believed the right thing had been done.
“I’ve always stood by my conviction that I was right all along,” he said.
