The County of Mathews has issued a statement regarding closure of the Hole in the Wall restaurant on Gwynn’s Island. In it, the county states that a solution is being worked on that will allow the restaurant to reopen on Friday, May 27.
The restaurant was closed on Wednesday morning after the Mathews Board of Supervisors received an engineering report regarding the restaurant Tuesday evening and discussed it during the board meeting.
The statement, which is available online at mathewscountyva.gov, reads as follows:
“Mathews County wishes to clarify recent events related to the Hole In The Wall Waterfront Grill.
“On May 25, 2022 the restaurant was closed due to concerns stemming from a Structural Engineering report outlining alterations from design drawings and soil foundation deficiencies.
