Gloucester High School varsity softball pitcher Autumn Cookson was recently named Softball Player of the Year by the Peninsula Sports Club.
The PSC named a Player of the Year for each sport for the fall, winter and spring seasons. The list of honorees for each sport was made up of mostly juniors and seniors. Cookson was the only freshman to be honored at a recent ceremony at the Boo Williams Sports Complex in Hampton.
In other recognitions, Cookson has also been named to the Peninsula District and Eastern Region first team selections, as well as to second team all-state. She was also named Player of the Year by the Peninsula District and Eastern Region.On the mound, Cookson had a 15-1 record with 148 strikeouts in 76.1 innings pitched with an ERA of 0.72. Cookson hit .594 with 43 RBIs.
Cookson has become the second GHS softball player to win the PSC award, joining Makayla Jenkins who won the inaugural award in 2013.
