Since 1977, The Sound of Swing Orchestra has been Hampton Roads’ leading premiere Big Band swing dance orchestra, said a press release. Specializing in the Big Band sounds of the 1940s through today, this 14-piece swing orchestra plays the memorable classics of such beloved past performers as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Doris Day, Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney and Dean Martin, right up to modern stars such as Harry Connick Jr., Linda Ronstadt and Michael Bublé.
Dick Crist was the founding leader of the band, serving for 27 years until his death in 2004. Bassist Glen Boswick then became the leader and today continues the exciting dance tradition of upbeat swing, sizzling Latins, romantic ballads and waltzes, said the release.
