Artist Doug Mock will offer a Composition and Design Workshop from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28, at Arts on Main in Gloucester.
Students will learn the importance of creating art that takes advantage of strong composition and design, said a press release. Artists will study the elements and principles of design, how to assess photos (or plein air sites) to ensure strong works of art, and how to best plan a work of art for success.
The workshop does not include physical painting, but Mock will have hands-on exercises to reinforce learning. Attendees are asked to bring at least six photos, preferably ones they’ve taken themselves, that they think would make great paintings. The photos should be 8.5 x 11 inches.
Mock regularly judges mixed-media art exhibits, said the release, and he evaluates and critiques art based upon the artist’s understanding of and utilization of strong composition.
