After receiving a tremendous response to its March 30 community drive through food distribution at Newington Baptist Church, the Bread for Life Food Pantry volunteers plan similar distributions from noon to 2 p.m. this coming Monday and again on Monday, April 13 at the Gloucester Court House church.
Bread for Life Executive Director Monique Raposa said the community drive through food distributions held in the morning and evening on March 26 at both Newington and at Providence Baptist Church passed out food to about 180 households.
The distribution held just once on March 30 at Newington alone saw about 200 vehicles pass through, each one receiving 30 to 40 pounds of food, Raposa said.
“That was the most people we had ever seen at a drive through distribution,” said Raposa. “It went very smoothly and we finished in just under two hours. We also learned a lot.” The Gloucester Community Emergency Response Team assisted with distribution.
For the next two Mondays, April 6 and 13, the Bread for Life distributions will continue in the Newington parking lot for both new and current clients.
New clients may register ahead by emailing bflpantry@gmail.com or by talking with a pantry volunteer at a drive through event. For more information visit the Bread for Life Food Pantry website at www.breadforlifefoodpantry.com.
